When it can't be done in 90,
or indeed extra time
to break the weary stalemate
the spot kick test decides,
where keepers can be heroes,
where the greats can fall,
when sometimes the outcome
means nothing at all.
And it went on forever,
this 'sudden' death in Rome,
until some poor bloke skied it,
now football's coming home!
