Various haiku, inspired by reading the Classics (Basho, Buson, Issa & Shiki)
Haiku, inspired by reading Basho (1644 - 1694)
with every gust of wind
a withering look
ball bounces awry
awestruck
the mascot child, squints up
to view the stars
falling snow
freckles the pitch : pigmentation
and pigs bladder
year's end
new brooms busy away
sweepers resolute
Haiku, inspired by reading Buson (1716 - 1783)
a slow game
memories of better matches
valued all the more
sprinkling the field :
those who asked to play
are immersed
Haiku, inspired by reading Issa (1763 - 1827)
even on a small island
ball and foot
look for partners
a day of haze;
still requires
a cool finish
Haiku, inspired by reading Shiki (1869 - 1902)
one nil
two nil
keep trying
on the sandy beach,
footprints;
drawn together, boxed in
twenty two labourers
toiling;
spectators comment

These haiku, inspired by reading the classical Haiku poets, and then with my football cap on, letting my thoughts run away.
All are written in a footballing context.
