Operation Fishpools is an innovative child-centred approach to raising
achievement of African Caribbean pupils in Gloucestershire schools, which
involves not only the schools themselves but also the whole community. This
project is the brainchild of Dee Russell-Thomas, CIRCLE, and the product of
her many years work and vast experience in this area. It is being piloted in
three schools in Gloucester. Black History Month in Britain is celebrated
every October, and is an exciting opportunity for school pupils to get
actively involved in finding out more about their cultural heritage. As
Fishpools co-ordinators at Brockworth School, Stuart Butler and Albert
Gardiner have initiated this programme of events in which all schools can
participate. I hope that your school will take advantage of this
opportunity, and anticipate that it will be a stimulating and rewarding
experience for all who get involved.
