About - footballpoets.org

footballpoets.org is founded on the work of Stroud Football Poets who were referred to by Radio 4 as "...the world's only known collective of football poets..."

but - this is not a Stroud Football Poets web site, it's a site for all football poets, lovers of football and maybe even lovers of (alternative) poetry. We're actively looking to sign more poets and will be delighted to discover unknown's in the lower leagues right on down to the school playground.

So send in your football poems, plus a little background on you (like - your team, where you live, your age, why you love - or hate - football and a picture or two if possible).

Please observe the authors copyright - you may not copy poems to place on other web sites without the copyright holders permission, but feel free to link to the poem.

If you want to reprint any of the poems in fanzine, newspaper or magazine you may do so provided you print the authors copyright and refer to this web site - www.footballpoets.org.

Site notes: I only suggested doing this ten days before Euro 2000. Stuart Butler was massively enthusiastic about the idea and we madly decided to go for a Euro 2000 launch. To say the least we're all chuffed with how it looks and the response we've had.

Why am I doing this? Call it fate and a creative urge, my normal web development work is boring old e-commerce and this is fun. Oh yes and all team meetings are at the Golden Fleece (or the Albert or the Pelican...)

I've know the football poets for years, I even have Dennis lodging in my attic and he plays indoor footie with Rob (6 yrs old), because you see our garden is too sloping. For me the poetry, especially when performed, invokes emotions and recalls memories linked with football. In a way it helps to explain the appeal of the game and why supporting a team is such a life long addicition.

So if you're puzzled as to why England has no natural left winger then look no further, we've got a whole squad of 'em.
